Trail running on the Hochkönig

The Hochkeil Recreation Park is the optimal base camp for ambitious runners.

Along the well-marked hiking trails but also on narrow mountain trails running in our mountain world is really fun. The Hochkönig Kumplellauf, the traditional mountain running festival in the Hochkönig region, starts with us at the Arthurhaus. The Hochkönig Man Ultra Trail even passes by the summit of our Hockeil.

The following round is suitable for beginners: From the start at the Schweizerhütte next to the Arthurhaus, the trail leads through the forest and along alpine paths to the Windraucheggalm. There you turn left down the path towards the Berghof and when you reach the main road you walk up the Erzweg back to the Arthurhaus.

Advanced hikers also start at the Schweizerhütte, walk past the Windraucheggalm, into the Riedingtal. There, the view of the fantastic waterfalls awaits, before the climb up to the Vierhütten becomes really strenuous. From the Vierhütten, take the forest road down to the Kopphütte and continue down to the old Hochkönig sports hall. From there, the Erzweg leads through the impressive Barbara Gorge past the Hochkeilhaus back to the Arthurhaus.

True trail running professionals can run towards the Hochkönig summit in perfect weather conditions, of course only from mid-summer when the trail is snow-free and with careful planning. The run starts from the Arthurhaus up to the Mitterfeldalm. From there to the back of the Mandlwände and up to the Torsäule. There the steep Kniebeisser awaits before it goes a few more kilometers uphill, downhill to the last climb up to Matrashaus! Caution: Pros only!
